A little over a week ago, we joined friends and family and welcomed Lev to the Jewish community with his bris and reveal of his Hebrew name.
To set the scene:
It was August 7, 2015, at 8 am at Temple Beth Zion, in the community room, home to our wedding reception and Sadie's naming.
Unlike our last go-round, the bris is pretty simple as far as decisions about the ceremony go, and we were surrounded by professionals who really run the show. Reb Moshe and pediatric urologist and mohelette Dr. Barbara Bassil got everything started... Deda and Grandma Lora acted as the sandecks and Lev was wrapped in the talis Mom and Dad wore at their wedding (also used to wrap Sadie at her naming)
Mom and Dad looked on... with an expression something between bemused and nonplussed...
The deed done, Lev was held up for all to view...
... And comforted by both Deda and a napkin full of sweet wine.
The ceremonies continued with Mom and Dad proceeding to bless wine using a Kiddish cup given to Dad at his bris.
The formalities (and surgeries) complete, stay tuned for Part 2, covering the names themselves and some wishes and readings from Mom and Dad.
